November 2001 Bond John Link, extension 2300 <br />Referendum Timetable Donna Dean, extension 2151 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To receive a report on a possible Navember 2001 bond referendum schedule. <br />BACKGROUND: Over the past few months, the Board of County Commissioners has <br />discussed the need for a future bond referendum to fund some Schaol and County long-range <br />capital needs. The Board is currently considering two possible dates for the voters to consider <br />a bond referendum -November 2001 or November 2002. Recently, staff provided the Board <br />with a brief timeline comparison related to both dates. At the October 3, 2000 Board of <br />Commissioners meeting, the Board requested that staff prepare a mare detailed calendar <br />related to a possible November 2001 referendum (Attachment 1 of this abstract). Generally <br />speaking, the Baard needs to finalize its decisions regarding outstanding issues such as the <br />need far future schools, parks, senior centers, and County space study by the end of January <br />2001. These decisions lay the groundwork for the Commissioner appointed Capital Needs <br />Advisory Task Force to begin work in early spring 2001 and bring forward recommendations to <br />the Board regarding projects to include on the referendum by June 2001. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with the attached report <br />and calendar. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the report and <br />calendar. The Board may choose to discuss the possible bond referendum at a future meeting. <br />
