Attachment <br />C8170-9/00 <br />PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION DIRECTOR <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs difficult professional and administrative work supervising all aspects of health <br />promotion, health education, and community outreach activities of the division; does <br />related work as required. <br />Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over subordinate <br />professional and clerical personnel. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Develops, plans, directs, implements and evaluates public health educational programs <br />which includes providing expertise to other divisions in Health department, other County <br />departments and other organizations within the County; <br />Manages data collection and analysis; <br />Responsible for fiscal management which includes grant acquisition, division budget, <br />state contracts, and multi-source funding; <br />Collaborates with other agencies and builds partnerships on bringing resources in the <br />County to improve service delivery for Orange County residents; <br />Serves as Committee Manager on community programs for Board of Health; <br />Makes presentations and prepazes reports, including health statistics, trend data, <br />comparison data and program activities for Boazd of Health; <br />Provides expertise in developing media plans including press releases, PSA's, articles, <br />and emergency communication plans for the department; <br />Serves as liaison with other organizations and represents the department on committees/ <br />task forces addressing Orange County's health promotion and health education needs; <br />Supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinates; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />Thorough knowledge of complex data collection, analysis and interpretation; skill in the <br />used of survey development and focus group facilitation; thorough knowledge of the <br />functions of cox~munity health agencies; thorough knowledge of methods and techniques <br />used in preparing and disseminating public health educational information and programs; <br />thorough knowledge of techniques involved in preparing graphic materials, exhibits and <br />visual aids; ability to present ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to <br />establish and maintain effective working relationships with educational and community <br />organizations, departmental staff and the general public; ability to write and speak <br />effectively. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an <br />accredited college or university with a Master's degree in public health, health education <br />or related field and at least 3 years experience in public health education, including one <br />yeaz supervisory experience. <br />SPECIAL RE UIREMENTS: <br />Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. <br />
