The Phase 1 Cultural Diversity training will provide general cultural diversity training to all <br />County employees. The training will be four to five hours in length and will be tailored to meet <br />the needs of individual departments. The goal is to build and support a workforce that responds <br />appropriately to the needs of the County's increasingly diverse community. Activities will focus <br />on team building, small group discussion and identifying and building a "vision" of effective <br />diversity management in .Orange County. Attachment 1 lists targeted outcomes. <br />To implement Phase 1 of the Cultural Diversity training program, staff proposes that the County <br />engage the services of training facilitator Pat Callair to provide cultural diversity training to <br />County employees. In addition to facilitating the training component, Ms. Callair will provide <br />support to the Cultural Diversity Resource Group. Pat Callair is a licensed clinical social worker, <br />with offices located in Orange County. She holds master degrees in both education and social <br />work and is a certified therapist and organizational consultant with over 25 years experience in <br />teaching and training including cultural diversity. In addition, she is a member of the faculty at <br />Guilford College where she teaches community building and conflict resolution. Attachment 2 is <br />the proposed agreement with Pat Callair to provide cultural diversity training to employees and <br />support to the Cultural Diversity Training Resource Group during fiscal year 2000-Q1. <br />The Phase 1 General Cultural Diversity Training will begin in September 2000. During fiscal <br />year 2000-01 Pat Callair will facilitate 12 Cultural Diversity training sessions as well as provide <br />support to the Cultural Diversity Training Resource Group. It is estimated that 300 - 350 County <br />employees will be trained during this fiscal year. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The estimated cost of the Cultural Diversity training for fiscal year 2000- <br />01 is $7,500. Funding was included in the approved 2000-01 budget for this purpose. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Board <br />Chair to sign the attached agreement for training services with Pat Callair to provide cultural <br />diversity training to County employees. <br />
