ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: September 5, 2000
Action Agenda
Item No. ,,,~-Q
SUBJECT: Resolution of Commendation to the Master Aging Plan Task Force
DEPARTMENT: Aging and the Advisory Boazd on PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
Aging
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Resolution Jerry M. Passmore, Director, Ext. 2009
Florence Sol s, Chair _
TELEPHONE NUMBERS
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968-4501
Durham b88-7331
Mebane 336-227-2031
PURPOSE: To consider a resolution commending the Master Aging Plan Task Force on completing the
five year plan and submitting it to the Boazd of County Commissioners for review and approval.
BACKGROUND: During the FY1999-2000, the Orange County Boazd of Commissioners adopted a
plan to develop a Master Aging Plan (M.A.P.) for Orange County for the period July, 2000- June, 2005.
The Commissioners' goal was "to develop and implement a Master Aging Plan (M.A.P.) that would
provide a comprehensive and coordinated delivery of community services to senior citizens over the life
span who have different levels of functional capacity." To achieve this goal, the County Commissioners
established a M.A.P. Task Force in November, 1999, comprised of a Steering Committee and three
functional subcommittees: the Well-Fit Subcommittee, the Moderately Impaired Subcommittee and the
Severely Disabled Subcommittee. Over ninety Orange County citizens, professionals in the aging field,
and community service providers volunteered their time to improve the quality of life for older residents.
After ten months, numerous meetings and two public hearings, the M.A.P. Task Force has identified the
issues, developed goals and objectives to address the issues. The Task Force has completed the Master
Aging Plan for the BOCC's consideration, modification and adoption at their work session on September
12, 2000.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Master Aging Plan report presents cost estimates for each proposed
objective where possible and a total annual cost for each of the five fiscal years.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Boazd adopt the resolution
commending the Master Aging Plan Task Force for their time, energy and expertise in preparing a plan
that will impact all Orange County older residents now and in the future.
