BOOK- 7 PACE 98
Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Ward, it was moved and
unanimously adopted, that the road beginning at Orange Grove and runs southeast to
Calvander and terminates at this point and being further designated as SR #1177 be
named Dairyland Road. The clerk was instructed to advise the North Carolina State
Highway Commission of the action taken by the Board of Commissioners in the naming
of SR #1177.
The County Administrator presented to the Board a right of way agreement dated
February 1, 1968 from Orange County to Duke Power Company, This agreement was for
the purpose of constructing a power line to the health center.
Unon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ward, it was
moved and adopted, that the Chairman of the Board be authorized to sign said right
of way agreement.
Chairman Bennett informed the Board that due to a request from the State Board
of Health the public hearing set for February 14, 1968 relative to the establishment
of the Dogwood Acres Sanitary District had been deferred. The reasons cited by the
State Board of Health was that objections to the holding of this public hearing had
been filed with the State Department and that time was needed to investigate the
situation prior to the holding of a public hearing.
Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ward, it was moved
and adopted, that Chairman Bennett was authorized to sign the Blind Aid Grants received
from the Welfare Department.
Commissioner Ray recommended that the County Welfare Board be permitted to join
a State Association comprised of County Welfare Board members.
Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was moved
and adopted, that the Orange County Welfare Board would be permitted to join the
North Carolina County Welfare Board Association.
Commissioner Ray advised the Board that some citizens were interested in
creating a rescue squad and a civil defense program for the County. It was
suggested that Commissioner Ray make an investigation in order to determine the
extent of the interest and to see if he could develop a program for the operation of
a rescue squad and a civil defense program.
Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was moved
and adopted, that W. David Bell, Smith Level Road, Carrboro, North Carolina be
appointed to fill the unexpired term of J. S. Wearn on the Carrboro Planning Board.
Said term would expire on April 18, 1969.
There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was
adjourned.
Harvey D.
