Er'?K 7 F,nE 88
Fred Cates, Mayor of the Town of Hillsborough, John Roberts and Bill Kennedy,
members of the Hillsborough Town Board of Aldermen, June Crumpler, Wiley Perry and
Turner Forrest, officials of the Orange Alamance Water Systems were present.
Chairman Bennett recognized Pearson Stewart of the Research Triangle Regional
Planning Commission. Mr. Stewart presented a progress report of the survey being
conducted on the county wide water and sewerage situation. The major portion of
Mr. Stewart's report concerned itself with the development of the water resources
along the transportation corridor across the central section of orange County.
Said report pointed out that an inter-connecting link between the Orange»Alamance
Water System and the Town of Mebane was desirable for many reasons and purposes,
however, the report further stated that there should be a complete understanding
between all parties and governmental agencies relative to the valves connecting
the two systems.
June Crumpler stated that it was the intention of the water systems and the
Town of Mebane to maintain the connecting valves in a closed position except in times
of an extreme emergency and that it was not the intentions of the water systems
or the Town of Mebane to buy or sell water to one another during more than a short
period of time.
Mayor Cates stated that it was his personal opinion that the agreement and
intentions of the Town of Mebane and the Orange Alamance rater Systems, relative
to the valves of the proposed inter-connecting water line, was satisfaetory.to the
Town of Hillsborough. Aldermen John Roberts and Bill Kennedy stated that they
were not sufficiently informed on the details of the situation and did not feel
they were in the position to comment on the matter at the present time.
There being no further business to come-before the board said meeting was
adjourned.
Harvey D. Bennett, Chairman
Betty June Hayes, Clerk
& . ..
S. M. Gattis, Acting Clerk
