The CWMTF <br />approved up to $377,000 for the joint acquisition and <br />preservation of 390 acres along the North Fork of the Little <br />River far the proposed Little River Regional Park and <br />Natural Area. Orange County's share of the grant is <br />$131,950. <br />Orange County (in partnership with Durham County, the <br />Triangle Land Conservancy, and the Eno River <br />Association) has been working to purchase land for a <br />proposed Little River Regional Park and Natural Area. The <br />390-acre property is owned by the Triangle Community <br />Foundation and straddles the county line, with 135 acres in <br />Orange County and 255 acres in Durham County. The <br />proposed park will preserve areas along the North Fork of. <br />the Little River, and feature low-impact recreation areas. <br />The property would be managed jointly by Orange and <br />Durham counties. A fundraising campaign to complete this <br />project will be conducted by the Triangle Land <br />Conservancy and Eno River Association later this fall. <br />County Commissioner Chair Moses Carey, Jr. states that <br />"This purchase is a great investment in the future of <br />Orange and Durham Counties and a great value for the <br />cost to taxpayers." <br />Earlier this month, Orange County and Durham County <br />commissioners approved the terms of an option to <br />purchase the property from the Triangle Community <br />Foundation. The proposed option agreement provides bath <br />counties with an opportunity (through May 31, 2000) to <br />
