Also to
designate the week of May 14 through May 21 as Senior Center Week in Orange County. This
is a time for Orange County to recognize its local senior centers as focal points for providing
opportunities and services to our older citizens.
BACKGROUND: For a number of years, the Orange County Commissioners have issued
Older Americans Month and Senior Center Week Proclamations. In the year 2000, there are
approximately 14,363 Orange County residents who are sixty (60) years of age and older, and
2,614 residents are over eighty (80) years old.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board designate May as Older
Americans Month and May 14 through May 215` as Senior Center Week in Orange County and
authorize the Chair to sign the proclamations.
