Also to <br />designate the week of May 14 through May 21 as Senior Center Week in Orange County. This <br />is a time for Orange County to recognize its local senior centers as focal points for providing <br />opportunities and services to our older citizens. <br />BACKGROUND: For a number of years, the Orange County Commissioners have issued <br />Older Americans Month and Senior Center Week Proclamations. In the year 2000, there are <br />approximately 14,363 Orange County residents who are sixty (60) years of age and older, and <br />2,614 residents are over eighty (80) years old. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board designate May as Older <br />Americans Month and May 14 through May 215` as Senior Center Week in Orange County and <br />authorize the Chair to sign the proclamations. <br />
