The Work Group was comprised of one elected official from each
jurisdiction and school board, along with representatives from Duke University, UNC, OWASA
and the town and County recreation advisory boards. This report served as a follow-up effort to
the 1996 and 1997 inter jurisdictional :reports on recreation and parks issues in the County. The
Work Group's charge also included exploring ways to develop a joint long-range capital facilities
plan for Orange County, Chapel Hill, Carrboro and (later) Hillsborough.
The Work Group report was received by the Board on June 21, 1999, and referred to the Town
and County advisory boards, followed by review and comment from the Town elected boards. A
schedule of review, along with a summary of board comments, is attached.
There are nine recommendations in the Work Group report. The nine recommendations
include:
A. Coordinate land acquisition through County Lands Legacy program and synchronize
jurisdiction's capital improvement plans (CIP's)
