PROGRAM NARRATIVE <br />Briefly describe what the program expects to achieve and why. At a minimum, the narrative should include the <br />following information: (1) Identify the sta,Q''and their responsibilities to the program, <br />(2) describe the physical facilities in which the services will be delivered (3) discuss any areas of concern that <br />could affect the success of the program (4) discuss why these resources used in the manner described should be <br />expected to alter inappropriate behavior, (S) describe the referral, screening and admission procedures, (6) <br />describe the means of working with youth and families, (7) describe the daily program activities, (8) describe the <br />termination procedures and (9) interaction with juvenile court. <br />This project is designed to intervene in the dismal cycle of juvenile recidivism that ultimately ends <br />with imprisonment in the adult system For the parents and / or guazdians the program is intended <br />to strengthen parenting skills, to enhance understanding of the legal system and to provide <br />support for parents and / or guazdians. <br />Youth and their parents and / or guazdians will be ordered by district court judges to participate in <br />this program Youth will be selected and referred to this program from curt9ent caseloads of Court <br />Counselors in Orange and Chatham Counties. Kate O'Brien, Court Counselor and Kerseclia L. <br />Patterson, Co-facilitator will meet with youth and pazents / guazdians for an eight-week session. <br />There will be three groups of 5-8 families in each. The facilitators will engage the families in <br />discussions, activities, and field trips to strengthen parenting skills, improve participants' <br />understanding of the legal system, victim empathy and discourage anti-social behavior. <br />Refreshments will be served at the beginning and end of each eight-week session; a certificate of <br />"successful completion" will be given to participants at the end of the each eight-week session. <br />Co-facilitators will administer pre 8c post meeting evahiations at the beginning and end of each <br />eight-week session, weekly meetings will also be held to discuss progress. Participation and <br />completion of program will be relayed to court courts via written reports. <br />Transportation may be an obstacle for some families causing for some co~ern, however this <br />issues will be discussed with each family on an individual basis during intake. <br />The Office of Juvenile Justice provides supervision for the youth who are on probation. It will be <br />the sole source of referrals. The juven>7e court counselors have an ongoing relationship with these <br />youth and are in an excellent position to encourage participation in these groups. <br />-4- <br />
