aI <br />NCHFA HOUSING REHABILITATION PROGRAMS -_ Energy Standards <br />S.0 MisceIlaneaus Requirements <br />S.1 To the maximum practicable extent, excessive moisture in crawlspaces or <br />basements shall be eliminated, Remedial measures may include faundation/footing <br />drainage systems, sealing plumbing penetrations, water proofng foundations below <br />grade, gutter systems, and/or sump pumps. All accessible crawlspace area must have <br />continuous 6-10 mil poly ground cover, wall to wall. <br />$.2 If exterior pole lighting installation is 'indicated (as in the case of multi-unit <br />rental projects) metal halide, mercury vapor or Iow- ar high-pressure radium lighting <br />should be used. (Note: ~ This is not a erogram-eligible expenditure.) <br />S.3 Where accessible, all electrical, .mechanical and plumbing penetrations through <br />floors, ceilings, exterior walls and plates shall be sealed with siliconized acrylicllatex <br />caulk, polyurethane foam sealant ar approved alternative. Electrical outlets and <br />switches should be sealed with foam gaskets under the cover plates or rubber inserts <br />inside the box. Gaps around power lines where they enter boxes should be caulked. <br />S.d All attic stairs, attic access scuttles and other access openings to unconditioned <br />space shall be treated as needed to minimize radiant and infiltration heat-loss. Attic . <br />doors should be framed such that R-30 insulation can be blown up to and azound the <br />hole. ~ Doors should be weatherstripped and insulated as practicable. A Styrofoam <br />"box" over folding stair frames: is recommended.
