The need for affordable housing in Orange County;
2. The identification of barriers to fulfilling those needs;
3. Development of strategies to overcome the identified barriers; and
4. The development of a county-wide, long-range (10-year) strategic
Affordable Housing Plan.
Approximately 100 members of the community participated in the Summit with 21 individuals
indicating an interest in continuing the dialogue. Included with this abstract are a summary of
summit proceedings and a list of the 21 interested persons.
Prior discussion regarding task force formulation to further discuss this issue has suggested the
need to form two study groups. One would be a county-wide task force that would focus on the
future development/facilitation of affordable housing throughout the County including the
Towns. The other group would focus on the role of the university in address the affordable
housing needs of the County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact of these task forces is dependent upon the final
structure of the Affordable Housing Task Forces. Possible financial items may include
additional staff support and research assistance.
