Hunt, Jr., Governor of North Carolina, has proclaimed the week of
April 9-15, 2000, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week in North Carolina, in
recognition of the telecommunicators that work in emergency dispatch centers serving the
citizens of this state. Two national organizations also recognize and proclaim this week on
behalf of telecommunicators nationwide. Telecommunicators
in Orange County are active in both organizations, working toward enhancing the quality of
service that communications centers provide.
Orange County's communications center provides 9-1-1 service to all citizens in the County and
dispatches the appropriate emergency services and law enforcement, in time of need.
Orange County's_teleco~mmunicators are among the highest trained in the state.
Telecommunicators provide a valuable service to the citizens and make Orange County a safer
place to live.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the adoption of the Proclamation.
