C4115-03/00 <br />RECYCLING OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR <br />GENERAL DEFINITION-OF WORK: <br />Performs difficult professional administrative work developing, implementing and <br />monitoring programs for recycling operations; does related work as required. <br />Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over subordinate <br />semi-skilled personnel. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Manages the Commercial Glass and Metal Program; <br />Confers with businesses to expand and contract services and to correct problems with <br />sorting and contamination; <br />Ensures that materials aze mazket ready and of sufficient quality when taken to market; <br />Manages the Drop Off Program; oversees signage, dumpsters and other physical <br />property; . <br />Confers with private business owners and governmental agencies on space issues for <br />recycling purposes; <br />Ensures that employees keep the Convenience Center sites clean; <br />Oversees operations at both the Public Works and Landfill sepazation pads; ensures that <br />materials are properly sorted; works on the processing pad as necessary to ensure work is <br />carnpleted; <br />Manages the Food Waste Program; <br />Oversees the collection and marketing of materials from in-house programs for cazdboazd <br />from Town and County buildings; <br />Provides training sessions to citizens on acceptable materials for recycling and space <br />needs for collection; <br />Oversees dumping of waste from Landfill rolloffs; <br />Oversees delivery and retrieval of recycling containers for County events where recycling <br />takes place; <br />Negotiates agreements and contracts on equipment and mazket prices for materials; <br />Analyzes data for trends to accomplish recycling more efficiently and cost effective; <br />Hires, trains, instructs and supervises subordinate staff; evaluates employee performance, <br />and counsels employees; <br />Performs related work as required. <br />KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />Thorough knowledge of recycling and solid waste management programs; ability to <br />develop creative and effective programs; ability to communicate effectively, bath orally <br />and in writing; ability to organize effectively; ability to work effectively with the <br />business community and the general public; ability to supervise personnel; ability to <br />resolve problems and complaints; ability to handle a large number of projects. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an <br />accredited college or university with major course work in education, public relations, <br />marketing, communication, environmental science or related field and at least two years <br />administrative experience in solid waste management, hazardous waste, recycling or <br />related area, including at least 1 year supervisory experience. <br />
