C4063-03/00 <br />RECYCLING MATERIALS HANDLER <br />GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br />Performs intermediate skilled work in identifying and separating waste at the landfill; <br />does related work as required. <br />Work is performed under general supervision. <br />TYPICAL TASKS: <br />Pulls out salvageable materials from landfill waste; inspects loads of recyclable materials <br />to ensure they meet mazket standards; <br />Communicates with vendors and other buyers regarding availability; <br />Communicates with other landfrll personnel about enhancing salvage and recovery; <br />Maintains daily record of activities including an inventory ofmaterials salvaged and <br />estimated weights; <br />Notifies supervisor of program progress, customer relations needs and other operational <br />issues; <br />Keeps working area neat and clean; <br />Supervises temporary employees; <br />Performs related tasks as required. <br />KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br />General knowledge of landfill rules and regulations; general knowledge of recyclable <br />materials; general knowledge of markets for recycled materials; general knowledge of <br />safety procedures in the operation of equipment; ability to perform heavy manual labor; <br />ability to work under a variety of weather conditions for a long period of time; ability to <br />keep accurate records; ability to communicate with the public; ability to fallow <br />instructions; ability to work independently. <br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br />Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school <br />and at least 1 year experience in construction waste, salvageable materials, recycling or <br />related area. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: <br />Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Cazolina. <br />
