On January 25, 2000, the Town of Chapel Hill held a public hearing to request comment on proposed uses <br />of FY 2000 HOME funding. They received two requests for funding, one from EmPOWERment for a <br />proposed housing project and one from the Orange Community Housing Corporation for Meadowmont. <br />The Orange County public hearing provides an opportunity for citizens, public agencies and other <br />interested parties to provide input into the Consolidated Housing Plan. Particularly, input is desired <br />regarding the housing needs in the community and suggestions for addressing the identified needs. <br />In addition, the public is also asked to comment on proposed uses of approximately $438,000 in FY2000 <br />HOME funds. Eligible HOME Program activities include: acquisition; new construction; housing <br />rehabilitation; and rental assistance. In FY 1999, $437,000 was available in HOME funding and the <br />following activities were approved for HOME funding. (Note, the following program budget includes the <br />required 25% local match contribution and local program income.) <br />Land Acquisition -Habitat for Humanity $ 50,000 <br />Property Acquisition - EmPOWERment, Inc. $100,000 <br />Property Acquisition - OPC Mental Health $ 60,000 <br />New Construction -Orange Community Housing Corp. $ 94,000 <br />($74,000 - Scarlette Drive; $20,000 -Meadowmont) <br />Housing Rehabilitation $147,625 <br />Urgent Repair Program $ 60,000 <br />Administration $ 43,700 <br />Total Program Activities $888,325 <br />In order to inform the general public of this opportunity and encourage participation,' notices have been <br />placed in the Chapel Hill Herald and sent to local non-profit agencies. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />NONE <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): <br />The Manager recommends receiving comments as prescribed above. <br />
