V <br />S_6 <br />cast iron pipe laid through the embankment to discharge <br />freely. Payment for this work shall he on material and <br />force account. <br />RIPRAP: On the upstream face of the dam, as shown on <br />cross sections, there shall be a stone riprap. These <br />stones shall be placed over a layer of crusher-run stone <br />30% coarser than 1/4" in size and the layer at least 9" <br />thick. The stone riprap shall be at least is, thick of <br />stone dumped from trucks or tossed into place by hand. This <br />stone shall be of such quality as to withstand freezing <br />and thawing. <br />Payment for riprap shall be made at the unit <br />price bid in the proposal per square yard. <br />STREAM CONTRDL: This item includes the control of the <br />stream so as to permit the construction of the embankment <br />without undue delay, and includes the protection of the <br />work against damage from floods. <br />It is expected that generally the-flow of the <br />stream will be taken care of through the 48' concrete <br />pressure pipe and to that-end the contractor shall con= <br />struct a temporary embankment or cofferdam across the <br />stream so as to divert the water into the 48' pipe in order <br />that it may not interfere with the construction of the <br />main embankment. The contractor shall make such provision <br />as he considers necessary to protect his work from any <br />unusual increase in'the flow of the stream, and shall not <br />be entitled to any extra compensation for any damage to <br />his work by the elements. <br />The price bid shall be a lump sum figure which <br />shall be the entire amount to be paid to the contractor on <br />account of floods. <br />SEEDING: Upon completion of the embankment and the placing <br />of the topsoil on the downstream slope, the Contractor <br />fertilizes and seeds this area a sufficient amount to <br />produce a good stand of red fescue. <br />TIDIBER-BRIDGE: The work under this item shall include a <br />timber briuge below the dam and the lump sum price bid shall <br />include everything necessary to complete the structure as <br />shown and as specified herein, including pile bents, bracing, <br />caps, stringers, bridging, floor, rail, nails, bolts, washers, <br />paint, etc., together with all labor, tools and equipment. <br />All work done and materials used shall conform to the require- <br />nents for timber structures as set forth in the standard <br />specifications of the North Carolina State Highway and <br />Public :corks Commission. <br />i <br /> <br />. r
