<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Hay, seconded by Commissioner Ward, Chairman <br />bernett anti members of the board of Commissioners, were authorized to sign copies <br />of the 1967-196A Welfare Department budget. <br />It was brought to the attention of the Board that Kornel Berger of Long <br />Island, New York, who along with other members of his family were constructing <br />the Piedmont steel & Tube Company plant, had recently died._ <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Smith, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />goon record as expressing its deepest sympathy to the Berger family because of <br />the death of Rornel Berger. <br />-Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted that a letter of appreciation, for the assistance <br />given to the construction of the Lake Orange Road, be forwarded to T. A. Burton, <br />Division Engineer of the State Highway Commission._ <br />Clarence Jones of Hillsborough Appeared before the Board to express his <br />opinions and concern over the garbage disposal problems which are arising for <br />citizens who live outside of the Town. Limits. Discussion ensued. <br />The followinP letter was presented by Mrs. Elizabeth U. Melduu: <br />"Mr. Hervey Bennett, Chairman <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />105 East Franklin Street <br />Chapel Hill, North Carolina <br />Deer Mr. Bennett: <br />It is with mixed emotions that I submit my resignation as Horne <br />-conomics Extension Agent for Orange County. I have beer. given an opportunity <br />which doesn't often present itself. I have been offered the position of District <br />Home Economics Agent for the East Central District. In this position. I will be <br />working with agents in sixteen counties, including Orange. I feel I must•take <br />advantage of this opportunity to prow in experience and to grow professionally. <br />f My two years in Orange County have been most rewarding,. The support <br />and cooperation of the Board of Commissioners and the county residents have made, <br />my efforts seem worthwhile. I will always hold a special place.for Orange County <br />in my memories, 1 appreciate all you have done to make me feel a part of the county. . <br />if it meets with your approval, I would like to terminate my responsibilities <br />.in Orange County effective September 15. I look forward to working with you in my <br />new role." <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Smith, Mrs. <br />.M.aldau's resignation effective as of September 15, 1967 was accepted with regret. <br />Thomas Rose and John B. Pridgen, Jr., Engineers employed for the Lake Orange <br />rroiect, were present along with A. H. Graham, County Attorney, to present the <br />Instructions to Bidders, Proposal and Specifications, Contract and Bond for <br />Lake Orange Dam. A. H. Graham, County Attorney, advised the Board that the <br />foregoing Contract, Bond, Power of Attorney and Insurance Certificates are in the <br />proper legal form and that the bids for said Lace Orange Dam could now be awarded. <br />•f <br />
