<br />GS:-2 <br />MORTAR: Mortar for brickwork shall be made of one part <br />Portland Cement, one-quarter part hydrated lime, and three <br />parts of sand. <br />Sand for mortar shall be of medium size, sharp, clean <br />and free from earth, trash or organic matter. It shall be <br />screened through a twelve-mesh screen. <br />CEMENT: The cement used on the work shall be a high grade <br />Po'orand Cement of a brand approved by the Engineer. It <br />shall fulfill the requirements of the Specifications for <br />testing Portland Cement, adopted by the American Society for <br />Testing Materials, under ASTM designation C-150, Type 1. <br />SAND FOR CONCRLTL. All sand used in the concrete work shall <br />be clean, sharp, practically free from loam, clay, vegetable <br />or other deleterious matter, and suitable as to grading and <br />size of grains for that,part of the work in which it is to <br />be used. Sand for concrete shall conform to the following: <br />Passing 200 mesh screen not more than 38 by weight. <br />Passing 100 mesh screen 0 to 89 by weight. <br />Passing 50 mesh screen 58-308 by weight. <br />Passing 16 mesh screen 458-808 by weight. <br />Passing 10 mesh screen 858-958 by weight. <br />Passing 4 mesh screen 958-1008 by weight. <br />Sand shall be equal to Lillington or Lilesville <br />washed sand with (if necessary for proper grading) a <br />good clean finer sand added to it, in proportion to be <br />determined by the Engineer. Under Colorimetric test it <br />shall not show darker color than the standard solution. <br />Sand shall be subject to approval of the engineer. <br />On Laboratory tests it shall show a tensile strength at <br />least equal to that of Standard Ottawa sand. On written <br />permission from the Engineer, screenings may be used in <br />place of a portion of the sand. <br />STONE OR GRAV.ZL: Stone or gravel for concrete shall <br />be clean, and and durable, of the best quality available. <br />It shall be free from all dirt, earth, or trash, and so <br />kept. Fine dust in the rock will not be allowed. It shall <br />be evenly graded (as far as is practical) from coarse to <br />fine, with no stone larger than 3/4 the minimum clear space <br />between the reinforcing bars. <br />No soft, disintegrated, sappy or weather wor., rock will <br />be allowed, and rock with an excess of mica will not be <br />allowed. <br />
