MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD CF COMMISSIONERS <br />July 3, 1967 <br />BOCK 7 FACE 1 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, <br />July 3, 1967 at ten o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in <br />Hillsborough. <br />Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners William C. Ray, <br />Carl M. Smith, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward. <br />Members Absent: None, <br />Minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. <br />Comma Byrd, resident of Eno Township, presented the following letter and <br />petition. <br />"ENO PRECINCT DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE <br />The Honorable Harvey Bennett <br />Chairman, Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />June 26, 1967 <br />The Eno Precinct Democratic Committee, Eric Township, respectfully request <br />that the people of Eno Township be allowed the right to vote on the zoning issue. <br />We wish to maintain a state of tranquility in this precinct and township <br />and this is the one way, in fact, the only way we can see of doing it. <br />We submit herewith a petition signed by 496 residents, voters and freeholders <br />of Eno Township requesting, also, that the people be allowed to vote on the <br />zoning issue. <br />Respectfully, <br />/s/ Clyde Hart, Chairman <br />/s/ James W. Kernodle, Secretary" <br />"We, the people of Eno Township and being in Orange County,'N. C. petition <br />our County Commissioners not to enact any kind of zoning in our township and or <br />county without the right of we the people to vote on the zoning ordinance and or <br />taxes to operate said zoning. <br />We also petition our state legislators in our county and state to enact laws <br />to allow us the right to vote on any zoning ordinance and or taxes for its operation <br />as the only method for enacting said ordinances. <br />NAME <br />ADDRE55" <br />The following road petitions were presented and the clerk was directed to <br />forward to State Highway Commission: <br />Barnes Street (Lincoln Park Subdivision) <br />Murray Avenue, West Hillsborough, N. C. <br />SR. #1338 <br />Northside Drive, Chapel Hill, N. C. <br />i <br />A petition signed by residents of the Orange Grove-Calvander Community <br />requested that Secondary Road 41177 be named Dairy Land Road and that a sign <br />so designating the name of said road be erected by the State Highway Department. <br />The clerk was advised to forward said petition stating the approval of the Board <br />to said petition,. <br />Discussion ensued concerning a letter received from W. Marshall Smith, <br />Recorders Court Judge. Judge Smith had requested a leave of absence from this <br />position effective as of July 1, 1967. It was moved and duly adopted that leave <br />of absence be-granted to W. Marshall Smith. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ward, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted that Dalton H. Loftin, Attorney at Law, be appointed <br />as Judge of Orange County Recorders Court effective as of July 1, 1967 until <br />August.31, 1967. The clerk was requested to advise Mr. Loftin of this appointment. <br />Discussion ensued relative to a petition being circulated in the Dogwood Acres <br />area relative to the establshment of a sanitary district. <br />Discussion ensued concerning O.E.O.and the Joint Orange-Chatham Action, Inc. <br />requested budget. It was agreed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />would discuss this matter further with the Chatham County Board of Commissioners. <br />
