While there <br />currently is only one applicant for this position, the Board reviewed the <br />applicant against the criteria that it felt was important for service on the Board <br />of Health. The criteria are: <br />• Dentist that is licensed to practice in North Carolina <br />• Dentist that is in active practice in Orange County <br />• Experience and/or training in public health <br />• Willingness to commit to active participation on the Board <br />In addition, the Board of Health is committed to increasing the diversity of <br />Board members and committed to preserving a geographical balance of <br />representation whenever possible. <br />The Board is unanimously recommending that the Commissioners consider <br />appointing Dr. Jessica Lee to the Board of Health for the unexpired term <br />previously filled by Dr. Janet Southerland. Dr. Lee has an impressive <br />curriculum vitae that more than fulfills the criteria above. She received a <br />graduate degree in pediatric dentistry and a doctorate in health administration <br />from the LTNC Schools of Dentistry and Public Health respectively. Dr. Lee is a <br />North Carolina licensed dentist, practicing with the School of Dentistry. She has <br />practiced in agencies that serve low income patients and has an impressive <br />record in evaluation and research of dental services to underserved populations. <br />She was interviewed by telephone by a Board member who was impressed with <br />Dr. Lee's desire to serve on the Board of Health and with her commitment to <br />underserved populations. She would bring a valuable depth and perspective to <br />the Board of Health.
