April 19., 1967 Minutes Continued <br />Everette Knight, Chief of the Industrial Waste Division of the North Carolina <br />Stream Sanitation Commission, advised the group any industry coming into North Caroling <br />must develops a satisfactory waste disposal plan. He further stated the water <br />resources of the area were so poor it would be extremely difficult to conduct any <br />mining operation of any size withoyt considerable reuse of water. <br />Milton Beath, Staff Member of he Institute of Government discussed the <br />possibility of a new air pollutionViow being developed for legislative enactment. <br />E. C. Bryson, Representative of Duke University expressed the grave concern <br />of Duke University about the matter and requested the county investigage the situation <br />thoroughly before any operations come into being. <br />Phil Greene, Staff Member of the Institute of Government presented a memo <br />concerning possible action and concluded the program by recommending a general <br />strengthening of the existing Zoninz Laws applicable in the county. <br />Chairman Bennett expressed the appreciation of the Board of Commissioners to <br />those persons who attended the meeting and advised them the county would do all in its <br />power to find out just what was going on, how it would affect the county as a whole, <br />and what we might best do to control any difficult problems that might arise from <br />mining or any of its allied function. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on Wednesday, April 26, 1967. <br />Harvey D. Gattis, Acting Clerk <br />- - - - - - - --- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />April 26, 1967 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in the Commissioners <br />Room at the Court House in Hillsborough on Wednesday, April 26, 1967 at 7:30 P.M. <br />in special session. <br />Members Present; Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners, William C. Ray, <br />Henry S. Walker, and Ira A. Ward. <br />Members Absent: Commissioner Carl M. Smith. <br />Commissioner Walker reported that he had attended the North Central Piedmont <br />Resources Development Commission meeting. He advised the Board of the discussions <br />and purposes of said commission. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was moved <br />and adopted that $100.00, as Orange County"s share of the organizational expense of <br />the North Central Piedmont Resources Development Commission be paid from the Contingent <br />Fund. The County Administrator was instructed to mail said check. <br />The Board of Commissioners adjourned and immediately reconvened as a Board of <br />Equalization and Review. <br />Frank Frederick, Clerk of Court, administered the oath of office to the Board <br />members. <br />The following cases were heard: <br />W. T. Hobbs, Lot in Chapel Hill Township off N. C. 51;. No change in value <br />was allowed. <br />Marvin Norwood, House and lot near Northside School add 20% economic depreciation <br />to house as it is overbuilt for the neighborhood and lot. <br />William M. Hardy, House and lot on Tenny Circle. Added 5% physical depreciation <br />to the house. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board of Equalization and <br />Review said meeting was adjourned. <br />Harvey D.
