Services to the Hispanic, Deaf& Hard of Hearing Community <br /> • How Hispanic community will be affected? Will it be harder to get services? <br /> • How to inform Hispanic community about services? How to get them to trust providers <br /> enough to take advantage of services? <br /> • Communication problems for Spanish speaking people. Need more interpreters of the <br /> same sex to talk about sensitive issues. <br /> • How to break down barriers in institutions? Example: Have same contact person for client <br /> at each visit. <br /> • Spanish speaking foster parents and respite care. <br /> • Need for community based service workers with sign fluency for children and adults. <br /> • Funding needs to be available for multiple care providers and interpreters if needed at same <br /> time. <br /> • Reimbursement rates should match fees of interpreters. <br /> • Funding for TTY or hearing aids regardless of income. <br /> • Funding for interpreters for Spanish and sign language. <br /> • More permanent bilingual onsite staff. <br /> • Education for doctors and health care providers. <br /> • Training in Spanish or signing for service providers. <br /> • Cultural training. <br /> • Spanish and deaf/hard of hearing should have same level of services as everyone else. <br /> • Spanish and/or deaf should have equal access to best health care practitioners without <br /> 4 <br />
