<br />The Clerk was thereupon directed to publish said order in The News of Orange
<br />County, once in each of two successive weeks, and•to publish at the foot of said
<br />order the appended note as required by The County Finance Act, as amended.
<br />Discussion ensued concerning the Chapel Hill City Administrative Units request
<br />for Supplemental School Tax election and the Chapel Hill District Recreation electi
<br />A. H. Graham, County Attorney, submitted his resignation as Vice Recorder of t]
<br />Orange County Recorders Court. He stated that his reason for resigning was that the
<br />position prohibited his firm from the practice of law in said court.
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was moved
<br />and adopted that Mr. Graham's resignation as Vice Recorder of the Orange County
<br />Recorders Court be accepted with regret.
<br />Chairman Bennett read letters of resignation from R. J. Smith., Sr., Chairman
<br />Orange County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and Giles Long, member of the Orange
<br />County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. These resignations were accepted with the
<br />understanding that the two members of the said Alcoholic Beverage Control Board wou3
<br />serve on said board until their successors in office were qualified by proper bond a
<br />oath of office.

<br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
<br />March 20, 1967
<br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in
<br />adjourned regular session at the County Courthouse in Hillsborough, the usual place
<br />of meeting, at 10 o'clock A.M., on March 20, 1967.
<br />Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners William C. Ray, Carl M.
<br />Smith, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward.
<br />Absent: None
<br />Also present: Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds and ex officio Clerk of the
<br />Board of Commissioners, and members of the Orange County Board of Education were
<br />also present for said meeting.
<br />The Chairman announced that this was the date and hour fixed by the Board for t
<br />public hearing upon the order entitled:
<br />"ORDER AUTHORIZING $130,000 COUNTY OFFICE
<br />BUILDING BONDS."
<br />No citizen or taxpayer of the County appeared, either in person or by attorney,
<br />to protest against the issuance of any of said bonds, and the Clerk announced that
<br />no protest in writing, signed by any citizen or taxpayer, had been presented.
<br />Thereupon, upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Ward and
<br />carried, the order introduced and passed on first reading on March 6, 1967, entitled
<br />"ORDER AUTHORIZING $130,000 COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING BONDS", was read a second time an
<br />placed upon its final passage. The vote upon the final passage of said order was:
<br />Ayes: Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, William C. Ray, Carl M. Smith, Henry S.
<br />Walker and Ira A. Ward.
<br />Noes: 0
<br />The Chairman then announced that the order entitled: "ORDER AUTHORIZING
<br />$130,000 COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING BONDS", had passed.
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner ward, seconded by Jahn Hawkins, County School Board
<br />member, it was moved and adopted that the following letter, of commendation be sent
<br />to R. J. Smith, Sr. and that a copy of same be spread upon the minutes.of the orange
<br />County Commissioners and the minutes of the Orange County School Board and that a
<br />copy be sent to each paper in the county.
<br />"The Board of County Commissioners and the Orange County School Board would lik
<br />to express its sincere appreciation to you for serving as chairman and as a member o:
<br />the Orange County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board since February of 1959. You have
<br />done a fine job.
<br />It is unusual indeed to find a person of your ability and statue who is willing
<br />to give the time necessary to properly execute a post such as this to public service.
<br />Your willingness to do this was our good fortune.
<br />Your guidance and advice to the alcoholic beverage control board will be sorely
<br />missed, yet the policy you were instrumental in formulating will serve to help guide
<br />that organization for years to come.
<br />Again we want to thank you on behalf of all the residents of Orange County for
<br />the outstanding job you performed."
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by John Hawkins, County School Board
<br />member, it was moved and adopted that the following letter of commendation be sent tc
<br />3iles Long and that a copy of same be spread upon the minutes of the Orange County
<br />=ommissioners and the minutes of the Orange County School Board and that a copy be
<br />sent to each paper in the county.
