C. was read by <br />Chairman Bennett. Mr. Childs declined to serve on the Chapel Hill Township Hoard of <br />Adjustment but suggested that Wade C. Parrish of 301 Wilkins Drive, Durham, N. C. <br />be named in his stead. <br />Members of the Orange-Alamance Water Systems, Inc. were present. June Crumpler <br />President, of said corporation presented a brief history of the difficulties encount rq <br />by his organization in trying to secure water for the Efland-Cheeks-Mebane area. <br />Mr. Crumpler requested the Board of Commissioners to endorse the.corporations projec <br />in constructing a lake of approximately 22 acres in size located on the Eno River, <br />North of Highway 70. Discussion ensued. <br />Fred Claytor, Mayor of the Town of Hillsborough, stated that the Town of <br />Hillsborough would not approve any agreement between the Water Systems, Inc. unless <br />the corporation could assure the Town of Hillsborough that its water supply would be <br />protected. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Walker, and <br />unanimously adopted it was moved that the County Board of Commissioners mail the <br />following letter: <br />'PTO: Orange Alamance Water System <br />% Mr. Wiley Perry <br />RFD <br />Mebane, N. C. <br />Gentlemen: <br />This is to advise you the Orange County Board of Commissioners intends to <br />construct a water reservoir along the Eno River somewhat North of the proposed lake <br />site you have shown to us. It is our intention to store water here for release <br />downstream in time of need and a reasonable supply of this water will be available <br />to the Orange Alamance Water System on a negotiated basis. <br />Yours very truly,. <br />S. Gattis <br />County Accountant, Orange County <br />Discussion ensued between the Board of Commissioners and Mayor Claytor relative <br />to the garbage disposal problem being encountered by the Town because of excessive <br />cost involved in covering the refuge. It was pointed out that county areas have <br />been permitted to use said garbage. dump individually and through contracts given to <br />garbage collectors. Chairman Bennett advised Mayor Claytor that the Board of <br />Commissioners would appoint a member to assist the Town in an investigation of this <br />matter. <br />Representatives of the Orange County Mental Health Society and Dr. Hill <br />Hollister from the staff of N. C. Memorial Hospital were present to discuss the <br />proposed Mental Health program which had been reviewed at a previous meeting by <br />various agencies of the Health Department. No action was taken. <br />There being no further business to come before the board said meeting was <br />adjourned to meet on Monday, March 20, 1967 at 10:00 A.M. in the Commissioners <br />Room at the Courthouse in Hillsborough. <br />Harvey D.
