<br />The clerk was instructed to forward to the State Highway Commission a letter <br />requesting that SR #1939,.which runs from Damascus Church to Smith Level Road, be <br />included by the State Highway Commission in their next road program for Orange Count, <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ray, the following <br />Aid to the Blind Grants were accepted: <br />AID TO THE BLIND AGENDA <br />March 6, 1967 <br />REVISION <br />NAME EFF. These representatives were advised that before the Board of Commissione <br />could act upon said matter formal petitions from each school board must be presented <br />to the Board of Commissioners. <br />Chairman Bennett advised the Commissioners and the members of the Orange County <br />School Board that the term of Dr. D. D. Carroll on the A.H.C. Board had expired. <br />Chairman Bennett stated further that he had received a letter from Dr. Carroll <br />requesting that he not be re-appointed to said A.B.C. Board. Upon motion of <br />Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Smith and unanimously adopted, <br />Bernice Ward of Chapel Hill was appointed as a member of the County A.S.C. Board <br />for a term of three years. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Smith, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted that a copy of the letter of appreciation to Dr. <br />Dudley D. Carroll be mailed to Dr. Carroll, that a copy be spread upon the minutes <br />of the Hoard of Commissioners and that a copy be spread upon the minutes of-the <br />Orange County School Hoard and that a copy be forwarded to each newspaper in the <br />county. <br />"The Board of County Commissioners and the Orange County School Hoard would <br />like to express its sincere appreciation to you for serving as chairman and as a <br />member of the Orange County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board since February of 1959. <br />You have done a fine job. <br />It is unusual indeed to find a person of your ability and statue who is willing <br />to give the time necessary to properly execute a post such as this to public <br />service. Your willingness to do this was.our good fortune. <br />When you advised us over a year ago you did not desire reappointment after your <br />present term expired, we keenly felt the forthcoming loss. However, after <br />realizing that service on this board consumed a portion of your time that could be <br />more pleasantly spent elsewhere, we felt your wishes should be paramount. <br />Your guidance and advice to the alcoholic beverage control board will be sorely <br />missed, yet the policy you were instrumental in formulating will serve to help guide <br />that organization for years to come. <br />Again we want to thank you on behalf of all the residents of Orange County for <br />the outstanding job you performed." <br />Members of the Orange County School Unit and the Chapel Hill City Administrati <br />Unit were present to discuss With the board a proposed $3,000,000 School Building <br />Bond Issue. They advised the Hoard that a decision for the division of said propos <br />bond money had been reached between the school units. Grey Culbreth stated that <br />the agreement would allocate $2,000,000 to the Chapel Hill City Administrative Unit <br />and would allocate 51,0001000 to the Orange County School Unit. <br />Chairman Bennett advised the school representatives that before any official <br />action could be taken by the Board of Commissioners formal petitions must be filed <br />by each school unit. <br />Donald Stanford, one of Orange County's representatives to the General Assembly <br />was present to discuss proposed legislation of interest to the Orange County Board <br />of Commissioners. <br />The Register of Deeds asked permission from the Board to have Orange County <br />included under the Uniform Fee Schedule for Registers of Deeds which was being <br />proposed and sponsored by the North Carolina Register of Deeds Association.
