Public comment. <br /> John Gilmore addressed "Adoption Policies" and handed out pictorial <br /> examples of abused and neglected animals seen at the shelter. He spoke <br /> about lack of contact with the animals and noted they handle about 200 <br /> cruelty cases per year. Of those, 90%are outdoor animals. <br /> Ms. Sanford informed everyone that much is done by the A.P.S. in the <br /> way of educational instruction via volunteers going to the schools, and by <br /> teachers and other educators. <br /> It was suggested that there be more funding for educational information to <br /> be given out. Ms. Sanford said that UNC will make tapes and there could <br /> be more public service announcements. <br /> s Mr. Rossi requested more public input and pointed out that the meeting <br /> packets were only distributed to the board members. He'would like all <br /> present at the meetings to get copies. He asked what the committee was <br /> doing in that the A.P.S. is'having to rewrite their policies per the board <br /> I& Rossi questioned the impartiality of the A.P.S. committee and <br /> suggested that the committee consist of two veterinarians, two A.P.S. <br /> members and three members of the public. <br /> Mr. Rossi questioned why the A.P.S.needs more money and why Animal <br /> Control isn't doing anything about auditing them. <br /> V. Committee comment. <br /> Barry Jacobs asked Harmony Whalen if an educational fund is available <br /> through the court system. Ms. Whalen said there is such a fund when <br /> going through the D.A.'s office,but not for civil cases. <br /> Barbara Chavious remembered such an audit four or five years ago. <br /> yyJ <br />
