• To provide support and comraderie amongst <br /> people who are concemed about the welfare of <br /> animals and the welfare of human beings. <br /> • Networking to provide community support for <br /> interrelated programs. <br /> • To provide counseling to pet owners to help them <br /> solve animal and animal-related problems, <br /> OUTCOME for 2001: <br /> • The APS offered a two-week Care Cadet Camp <br /> for youth 12-15 years of age. This camp was held <br /> at the Orange County Animal Shelter and included <br /> such programs as health care, dog training, <br /> disease management, and volunteer effectiveness <br /> training. <br /> • The APS offered three one-week IGds n' Critters <br /> camps by contract with the Chapel Hill/Carrboro <br /> schools system. These programs include 2-5 <br /> grade students. The curriculum is similar to Care <br /> Cadets, but it is designed for elementary-level <br /> students. <br /> • The APS held a three-day Horse Investigation <br /> Workshop co-sponsored with the Humane Society <br /> of the United States and NC State University <br /> Equine Program. This event attracts professional* <br /> in the field of animal care and law enforcement <br /> from throughout the Southeast. <br /> • The APS held a 6-hour Basic Animal Investigation <br /> Workshop, including 19-A procedures. <br /> • The APS offer; a lecture series, including world- <br /> renowned speakers like Sue Sternberg, Patricia <br /> McConnel, and.Trish Kng. <br /> • Volunteers and staff present programs to local <br /> organizations and schools groups. <br /> • APS has networked with Orange Enterprise to <br /> have trainees work at the Animal Shelter with <br /> Orange Enterprise supervisors. <br /> • The Shelter has in place a°Pets for Life" line for <br /> people seeking help to solve animal and animal- <br /> related problems. This is a volunteer-managed <br /> program. <br /> 11 <br />
