S <br /> 30 <br /> STRATEGIES: <br /> • To keep a lost and found.file that is reviewed each <br /> day. <br /> • To read all lost and found reports at the daily staff <br /> meeting. <br /> • To offer free brass identification tags for all <br /> adopted and reclaimed animals to facilitate <br /> identification of pets when lost, <br /> • To insert microchips registered with the American <br /> Kennel Club (AKC) in each dog and cat adopted. <br /> • To offer low-cost microchips to the public. <br /> OUTCOME FOR 2001: <br /> • Each adopted animal received a free brass <br /> identification tag that was attached to the pet's <br /> collar before leaving the Shelter(1,923 tags). <br /> • Each adopted dog and cat received a microchip <br /> that was registered with the AKC. <br /> • 598, or 12%, of the total number of dispositioned <br /> animals impounded (stray and surrendered), or <br /> (17%) of the strays admitted to the Shelter) were <br /> reclaimed. This was 1% greater than the previous <br /> year. <br /> • Reclamation and board fees totaled$18,957 in the <br /> fiscal year 2000-01. <br /> NEED IV. To Increase the numbers of animals adopted from the <br /> Shelter. <br /> OBJECTIVES <br /> • To increase the percentage of animals adopted <br /> from the Orange County <br /> Animal Shelter. <br /> • To provide residents of Orange County with pets <br /> that have been spayed/neutered at a reasonable <br /> fee. <br /> STRATEGIES: <br /> • To continue adoption outreach through Dubey's <br /> Pet World, PetsSmart in Durham, Pet-of-the- <br /> Week,and APS webstle. <br /> • The APS added another remote adoption center at <br /> PetSmart in Cary. The APS will continue this <br /> program through a program which couriers <br /> animals to and from the pet shop and performs <br /> adoptions there. <br /> 8 <br />
