l7 <br /> Biography <br /> Jodi Lytle Buckman <br /> Director, Shelter Services <br /> American Humane Association <br /> Jodi Lytle Buckman joined the American Humane Association (AHA) in 2000 as the <br /> Manager of Shelter Services, providing direct assistance and support to shelters across <br /> the country on a wide range of issues. Now serving as the Director of Shelter Services, <br /> Buckman works with a team of animal welfare professionals serving the needs of the <br /> animal sheltering community. She serves on the National Council on Pet Population <br /> Study and Policy and is an instructor for AHA's Shelter Operations School, SOS for <br /> Managers, Shelter Planning, Design and Construction class and the National <br /> Fundraising School. <br /> Buckman graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology from Macalester College in St. <br /> Paul, Minnesota. Her career in animal welfare began with a college internship at a <br /> humane society in St. Paul. That experience was the foundation for her first job out of <br /> college when she was hired as the first-ever Executive Director of the Bangor Humane <br /> Society in Bangor, Maine. Buckman served as an Executive Director for over seven <br /> years, first at Bangor Humane where her tenure culminated with the successful <br /> completion of a capital campaign and the preparation of construction documents for a <br /> new facility and then back to Minnesota at the St. Croix Animal Shelter in Woodbury, <br /> where she and her staff worked through the completion of and transition into a new <br /> facility. Buckman has also worked with local animal shelters and humane societies as a <br /> consultant, primarily working with Board of Directors on areas including board and <br /> organizational development, strategic planning and shelter planning and design. <br /> Buckman's volunteer commitments include a four-year tenure as President of the Maine <br /> Federation of Humane Societies, board member of the New England Federation of <br /> Humane Societies, service on a variety of animal-related State Commissions in Maine <br /> and work with the Midwest Regional Office of the Nature Conservancy. <br /> Jodi, her husband David Lytle, and children Samuel Jack and Zoe Cora share their <br /> home in northern Minnesota with a variety of former foster animals; canines Kate, Spot <br /> and Shadow; and feline Hannibal. <br />
