Kent McKenzie, Emergency Management Services 968;,2050 Donna King, Orange County Health Department 245-2449 Water Conservation Tips for Restaurant and Food Service Preparation Orange County Health Departments Environmental Health Division developed a list of tips to help local restaurants conserve water and maintain proper sanitation Environmental Health Specialists are distributing tip sheets via the mail and as they visit food establishments. The tip sheet is also available on the web: htip://www.p2pays.org/ref/23122003.pdf Contact: Ron Holdway, Director, Environmental Health 245-2360 Water Suppliers and water saving devices Water conservation is a year round activity for the water utilities. Most of the local water suppliers offer water saving devices, leak test kits, and will make an one-time adjustments to water bills when receipts for repairs are submitted. Residents should contact their local water supplier for the availability of water saving devices and test kits. The Orange Water and Sewer Authority(OWASA)give* away low-flow showerheads(2 per OWASA customer), toilet leak detection tablets (food dye)and information on conservation techniques including water-efficient landscaping as well as indoor conservation. Faye Metcalf 563-6212 Agricultural Community Response and Outreach Orange County Cooperative Extension, USDA Farm Service Agency, USDA Rural Development, and Orange Soil and Water Conservation are working with farmers to minimize loss to crops and livestock. Wells and irrigation sources are drying up and losses are mounting. Meetings are being conducted to provide technical assistance, as well as, monitor the situation. how cost loans and grants are being made available to aid in the relief. Cooperative Extension will also be providing water saving devices to those on wells.
