r
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: September 3, 2002
Action Agenda
Item No. A
SUBJECT: Amendment to HUD Cooperative Agreement for FFY 2002
DEPARTMENT: Human Rights and Relations PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Annette Moore, ext. 2254
Cover Letter from HUD
TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968.4501
Durham 688-7331
Mebane 336-227-2031
PURPOSE: To approve an Amendment to the Cooperative Agreement Between Orange
County and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)for the
Partnership Initiative FY 2002.
BACKGROUND: On August 20, 2002, the Board of County Commissioners approved a
Cooperative Agreement between the County and the United States Department of Housing and
Urban Development for services to be performed in FFY 2002 in the amount of$49,700. HUD
proposes that the Department receive an additional $20,000 in Partnership Initiative Funds for
the specific purpose of"obtaining services or conduct activities inside and outside of the agency
that affirmatively furthers the implementation and scope of the Agency's fair housing law."
During FFY 2001, the Department received Partnership Initiative Funds in the amount of
$25,000 to conduct a fair housing audit, the results of which will be released this fall.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: This reflects funds that were not anticipated during the formulation of the
Human Rights and Relations Department budget this past spring. Should the Commissioners
approve the receipt of these additional funds, a corresponding budget amendment will be
prepared for Board approval at its September 17, 2002 meeting.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board approve the Amendment to
the Cooperative Agreement and authorize the Chair to sign the agreement.
