Smith in-Chapel Hill, N. C. at 7:30 P.M. on Monday, November 28, 1966.
Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Sennett, Commissioners Gordon B.
Cleveland, William C. Ray, Caul M. Smith and Henry S. Walker.
Members Absent: None
Also present were Turner Forrest and Wiley Perry representatives of the
Orange-Alamance Water Systems, Inc.
Discussion ensued concerning complications which have arisen in the developme
of the Water Systems, Inc. Mr. Perry reported the Water Systems, Inc. had reduced
the size of its proposed lake, which was to have included one hundred acres, but
now estimated to include thirty-two acres. This was done in order to enable the
lake to be contained within boundaries exceptable to the adjoining land owners. D
to the fact that the Water Systems, Inc. lake will be smaller than the originally
planned lake both representatives expressed concern about the presence of the
proposed Lake Orange reservoir several miles above their proposed lake and
reservoir. Mr. Perry expressed the opinion that the Federal Home Administration
officials might view the Orange-Alamance Water Systems, Inc. project with more
favor if the Lake Orange project was in existence as the Water Systems, Inc.
need for a larger reservoir would be perhaps lessened.
The Board advised Mr. Forrest and Mr. Perry that they collectively and
individually were supporting the proposed Lake Orange project and the Water-Sewer
Bond election. They requested the assistance of Mr. Forrest and Mr. Perry in
helping to assist with the passage of said election. Both of the representatives
stated that they would do what they could to assist the project.
Further discussion ensued-concerning the promotion campaign pertaining to the
Water-Sewer Bond election.--
There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was
adjourned.
Harvey D.
