Analysis of Impacts of Potential School Merger -Report <br />In accordance with a Board of Commissioner goal for calendar year 2003, County staff <br />prepared a report with analysis of potential financial, organizational, and legal implications that <br />might arise from the possible merger of the County's two school systems. County staff will <br />provide a brief synopsis of the major findings, as first presented at the September 15 work <br />session of the Orange County Commissioners. The entire staff report is voluminous, and <br />therefore is not provided in hard copy as an attachment to this abstract. However, the report <br />in its entirety may be reviewed online at the Orange County website (www.co.orange.nc.us). <br />Public hearings on the topic of potential school merger have been established by the BOCC <br />for October 16 and 23, 2003. <br />No Attachments <br />b. New School Facility Development <br />• OCS Middle School #3 <br />The Orange County Board of Education indicated that it would like discussion regarding the <br />following items as a part of the joint meeting discussion: <br />1. Start-up costs for middle school # 3 and assistance OCS could get from the BOCC, <br />considering OCS has no special tax to take care of additional expenses associated with <br />new construction. Would OCS qualify for additional funding associated with Smart <br />Growth? <br />
