ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: October 18, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. q- Q <br />SUBJECT: Master Aging Plan Update Task Farce: Approval of Charge, Membership and <br />Timeframe <br />DEPARTMENT: Aging/ Advisory Board on Aging PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />1) Statement of Gharge to the Task Force <br />2) Structure of the M.A.P, Task Force <br />3) Proposed Update Time Frame <br />4) List of Member Recommendations <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Jerry Passmore, 245-2000 <br />Jack Chestnut, Chair, Advisory Board <br />Donna Baker, BOCC Clerk, 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: To present for BOCC consideration a proposed charge, membership <br />composition/appointments, and timeframe for preparing an update of the Master Aging Plan. <br />BACKGROUND: At the request of the Orange County Advisory Board on Aging, the Orange <br />County Board of Commissioners approved on .tune 23, 2005 the updating the Master Aging <br />Plan (M.A.P.) for the Years 2006-2010, Advertisement appeared in the local newspapers <br />soliciting applications for members to serve on the M.A.P. Update's four committees: (1) <br />Steering Committee, (2) Well/Fit Older Adult Subcommittee, (3) Disabled /Moderately Impaired <br />Older Adult Subcommittee, and (4) the Severely Impaired /Institutionalized Older Adult <br />Subcommittee, The first M,A,P, orientation meeting for the Task Force is tentatively scheduled <br />for mid-November, 2005 and submission of the M.A.P. Update by May 2006, <br />Ta ensure widespread public involvement, many community partners were invited to participate <br />such as the Orange County United Way, UNC Hospitals, Carol Woods, UNC Schools/ <br />Departments and local agencies serving older adults. Florence Soltys, Aging Board Member, <br />and Pat Sprigg, President & CEO of Carol Woods, have agreed to co-chair the Steering <br />Committee as longstanding community advocates in eldercare services and support. The <br />Steering Committee will guide the activities of the three Subcommittees charged with review <br />and research around specific issues of the elderly, and help develop the comprehensive M,A,P. <br />Update based on emerging needs and perceived priorities, The Manager also recommends <br />that the BOCC name two of its members to serve on the Steering Committee to provide a <br />strong linkage to the Board as issues and interests are actively reviewed and researched <br />throughout the process. County Manager John Link and Assistant County Manager Gwen <br />Harvey will also provide guidance and support to the Steering Committee, <br />
