Nels and Nancy Anderson for their achievement in having
their property, the Holden-Roberts Farm, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
BACKGROUND: Long-time residents of the St. Mary's Road community, Nels and Nancy
Anderson have demonstrated continued preservation stewardship for their historic property,
the Holden-Roberts Farm (also know as the Cain Roberts Farm). When Orange County
completed its countywide inventory of historic sites in the early 1990s, the Andersons'
property was one of approximately 24 sites identified as being eligible for the National
Register, and it was placed on the "study list". The Andersons hired a consultant to prepare
their nomination, and the Holden-Roberts Farm was formally listed in the National Register of
Historic Places. Only eleven other individual properties located within Orange County's
planning jurisdiction share this designation.
The National Register of Historic Places is the nation's official list of buildings, structures,
objects, sites, and districts worthy of preservation for their significance in American history,
architecture, archaeology, and culture. Listing in the National Register is a prestigious honor
in historic preservation, and the attached resolution publicly recognizes this accomplishment.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None
