MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />493 <br />October 10, 1966 <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in <br />adjourned session at the County Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina, at <br />8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 10, 1966 in the Commissioners room. <br />Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners Gordon B. <br />Cleveland, William C. Ray, Carl M. Smith, and Henry S. Walker. <br />Members absent: None <br />This meeting was held for the purpose of deciding what action the Orange <br />County Board of Commissioners should take in order to assist with the passage of <br />the proposed Water and Sewerage Bonds election which is being held on November 8, <br />1966. <br />The County Administrator submitted a list of ways and means by which to aid <br />in the passage of the Water and Sewerage Bonds. He was authorized by the Board <br />to implement these proposals, or as many as could be completed before the said <br />election. It was also agreed that members of the Board would accept invitations. <br />to talk before Civic Clubs or any interested groups in order to explain the <br />necessity of the County's position pertaining to the Water and Sewerage Bond <br />election. <br />Commissioner Ray submitted the following road petition: <br />Sunset Circle - Hillsborough Township West Hillsborough <br />There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on =Tuesday,_October- 11,"1966:.in'the"Commi-ssioners-room <br />at the courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Harvey D. Bennett <br />Chairman <br />Betty June Hayes, Clerk <br />FOR OCTOBER 11i 1966 MEETING SEE PAGE 497 <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />October 17, 1966 <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in <br />adjourned regular session at the County Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina, <br />the regular place of meeting, at 8:00 o'clock P.M., on October 17, 1966. <br />Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, <br />William C. Ray, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. <br />Absent: None <br />Also present: Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds and ex officio Clerk of <br />Board of Commissioners and S. M. Gattis, County Accountant. <br />The Register of Deeds and ex officio Clerk of the Board of Commissioners <br />presented certified copies of resolutions which had been received from The Orange <br />County Board of Education and the Chapel Hill City Board of Education. <br />Thereupon Commissioner Smith introduced the following order authorizing bonds <br />which was read: <br />ORDER AUTHORIZING $3,000,000 <br />SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS <br />WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Education has certified to this Board a <br />resolution passed on October 3, 1966, showing that adequate school facilities are <br />not now available in Orange County to comply with the requirements of Section 3 of <br />Article IX of the Constitution of North Carolina for the maintenance of schools <br />six months in every year, and that it is necessary, in order to maintain such six <br />months' school term as required by said Section 3 of Article IX of the Constitution; <br />to erect additional school buildings and other school plant facilities, remodel, <br />enlarge and reconstruct existing school buildings and other school plant facilities <br />and acquire necessary land and equipment therefor to provide additional school <br />facilities in said County, the estimated cost of which is $1,000,000; and
