2 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />PROCLAMATION <br />NATIONAL 9-1-1 DAY <br />Whereas, Thousands of dedicated individuals serve the citizens of the United <br />States, including Orange County, as 9-1-1 T'elecommunicators; and <br />Whereas, They answer the 9-1-1 calls for police, fire and emergency medical <br />services by dispatching the appropriate assistance as quickly as <br />possible; and <br />Whereas, The Associated Public-Safety Communications Officers, Inc. and <br />the National Emergency Number Association have set aside the <br />day of September 11, 2003 to recognize 9-1-1 and the crucial role <br />it plays in the protection of life and property; and <br />Whereas, The Orange County 9-1-1 Center answers over 650,000 phone <br />calls and initiates over 300,000 responses for citizens in their time <br />of need; <br />Now, Therefore, We, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, hereby proclaim <br />the day of September 11, 2003 as "National 9-1-1 Day" in Orange <br />County, North Carolina in honor and recognition of Orange <br />County's Telecommunicators and the vital contributions they make <br />to the safety and well being of our citizens. <br />Adopted this 2°a day of September, 2003 <br />Margaret Brown, Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
