The formal <br />presentation will be followed by a question and answer period. <br />County staff will then provide a brief synopsis of work accomplished during the summer break <br />an various aspects of shelter operation -including improvements underway to current facility, <br />considerations in new siting and construction, models of organizational arrangements far animal <br />sheltering, and managerial/financial considerations should the County wish to assume future <br />operatian of the shelter. Print documentation from the County staff will also be distributed at the <br />meeting. <br />BACKGROUND: The BOCC contracted with HSUS in early 2443 to assess the overall <br />operatian of the animal shelter. A preliminary report on disease management was received <br />from HSUS prior to the summer break. In addition to immediate discussion with APS of interim <br />improvements at the County-awned shelter for the sake of disease management and <br />prevention, the BOCC directed County staff to begin careful scrutiny of various options for future <br />operation and movement towards design and construction of a relocated facility. The BOCC <br />also elected an June 17 to extend the current contract with AP5 on a month-to-month basis far <br />the balance of the current calendar year. <br />
