In most cases, government services and public service agencies are permitted in all zoning <br />categories because of their contributions to the welfare of the community. In other cases, <br />public schools may be permitted by a special use process to accent the coordination <br />necessary to plan for a school. The Buckhorn Economic Development District, unlike the <br />other Economic Development Districts, did not note public schools as a permitted or special <br />use, perhaps as an oversight. <br />Nonetheless, public schools (and similarly, presently permitted vocational schools) are <br />compatible with other non-residential uses suggested within the Economic Development <br />District. <br />The Site Selection Committee has been following the Policy on Planning and Funding <br />School Capital Projects as noted in the attached abridged outline. Environmental Considerations (Soils, Topography, Natural Areas, <br />Streams and Watershed) <br />E. Land Use and Land Use Compatibility <br />F. Site Acquisition and Development Cost <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this decision. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Administration recommends that the Board receive the <br />information as a report and direct staff to prepare resolutions for September 16, 2003 agendas <br />as discussed at the Work Session. <br />2 <br />
