<br />HOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
<br />August 15, 1966
<br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in
<br />adjourned regular session at 8:00 01clock, P.M., August 15, 1966, at the County
<br />Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
<br />Present: Harvey D. Bennett, Chairman, and Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland,
<br />William C. Ray, and Henry S. Walker.
<br />Absent: Commissioner Carl M. Smith.
<br />Commissioner Cleveland introduced the following resolution which was read:
<br />RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL BOND
<br />AND TAX ELECTION IN ORANGE RECREA-
<br />TION DISTRICT OF ORANGE COUNTY
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange:
<br />Section 1. That a special bond and tax election is hereby ordered to be held
<br />in Orange Recreation District of Orange County, on Tuesday, September 27, 1966,
<br />between 6:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M., Eastern Standard Time, at which there will be
<br />submitted to the qualified voters of said Orange Recreation District of Orange Count;
<br />(a) the question of issuing not exceeding $400,000 Recreation Facilities Bonds
<br />for and in behalf of said Orange Recreation District of Orange County for the
<br />purpose of providing funds, with any other available funds, for acquiring, improving
<br />and equipping lands and buildings for parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and
<br />other recreational facilities in said Orange Recreation District, and levying a
<br />sufficient tax for the payment thereof, and
<br />(b) the question of levying an annual tax of not less than three cents (3a) not
<br />more than ten cents (10a) on each $100.00 of assessed valuation-of the taxable
<br />property in said Orange Recreation District of Orange County for providing,
<br />establishing, maintaining and operating recreational facilities.
<br />Section 2. That there shall be a new registration of voters for said election,
<br />the books for such new registration to be open from 9:00 A.M. until sunset on each
<br />day beginning Saturday, September 3, 1966 and ending Saturday, September 17, 1966.
<br />On each Saturday during such period said books shall be kept open at the polling
<br />places. Saturday, September 24, 1966, shall be Challenge Day.
<br />Section 3. That notice of said election and new registration shall be
<br />published once a week for three successive weeks, the first publication to be at
<br />least thirty (30) days before the election, in The Chapel Hill Weekly and in The
<br />News of Orange County, newspapers published in Orange County and circulating in said
<br />District, which notice shall be in substantially the following form:

<br />ORANGE RECREATION DISTRICT OF ORANGE COUNTY
<br />A special bond election will be held between 6:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M., Eastern
<br />Standard Time, Tuesday, September 27, 1966, at which there will be submitted to the
<br />qualified registered voters of Orange Recreation District of Orange County, in
<br />Orange County, North Carolina, which District comprises the territory hereinafter
<br />described,
<br />(a) the question of issuing not exceeding $400,000 Recreation Facilities Bonds
<br />for and in behalf of said Orange Recreation District of Orange`-County for the purpose
<br />of providing funds, with any other available funds, for acquiring, improving and
<br />equipping lands and buildings for parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and other
<br />recreational facilities in said orange Recreation District, and levying a sufficient
<br />tax for the payment thereof, and
<br />(b) the question of levying an annual tax of not less than three cents (3¢) nor
<br />more than ten cents (10c) on each $100.00 of assessed valuation of the taxable
<br />property in said Orange Recreation District of Orange County for providing,
<br />establishing, maintaining and operating recreational facilities.
<br />The boundary lines of said Orange Recreation District of Orange County are as
<br />follows:
<br />BEGINNING in the center line of State Road No. 1112, where the Chapel Hill and
<br />Bingham Township line crosses said road; thence in a Southeasterly direction along
<br />the center of said road 250 feet to a point where the center line of State Road No.
<br />1113 intersects with State Road No. 1112; thence in a Northeasterly direction along
<br />State Road No. 1113, 1,525 feet to a concrete marker in the center of said road;
<br />thence South 719 201 East 4,390 feet to a oncrete marker in the East side of State
<br />Road No. 1179; thence South 82° 30' East 5,480 feet to a concrete marker in the East
<br />side of old N. C. Highway 86; thence South 81° 09, East 8,780 feet to a point 50 fee
<br />East of the center line of State University Railroad; thence in a Northerly directio:
<br />parallel with the center line of State University Railroad 3,350 feet; thence North
<br />87° 151 East 23,940 feet to the Durham County line; thence in a Southerly direction
<br />along the Durham County and Orange County line 53,750 feet to its intersection with
<br />the Chatham County line; thence in a Westerly direction along the Orange County and
