This group included representatives from the University of North Carolina at <br />Chapel Hill, Orange County Government, UNC Hospitals, UNC Institute on Aging, UNC Medical <br />School -Program on Aging, the Town of Chapel Hill, the Town of Carrboro, Triangle J Council <br />of Governments, Carol Woods, Friends of the Chapel Hill Senior Center and other seniors from <br />Southern Orange. It was agreed at that time that senior services for the future should go <br />beyond what was traditionally offered at a senior center and should encompass research, <br />education, training and direct service. <br />This prompted a spirit of collaboration and strong interest in developing a campus environment <br />that encompassed not only a future senior center, but also the possibility of a senior wellness <br />center and/or clinic and research facilities geared toward seniors. On November 4, 1998, the <br />BOCC approved a recommendation to endorse the use of a footprint on the Southern Human <br />Services Center property for a future County senior center adjoining the University's Horace <br />Williams property, now referred to as Carolina North, and passed a resolution to pursue the <br />campus concept with the University at this location (see attachment). In August 2002, the <br />Orange County Advisory Board on Aging approved a detailed report prepared by the <br />
