2.[. Corpus Christi conducted a homeless survey involving 374 total
Survey and participants of whom 260 persons self described as homeless. The
Focus Group results of the survey were described in Section 1.3 of the report.
According to the HIP Point-in-Time survey conducted on January 29,
2003, 44 of the 281 individuals were chronically homeless. HIP and
United Way of the Coastal Bend conducted a Focus group forum on
June 10, 2003 involving more than 300 interested agencies. Forty-three
participants were divided into eight groups, which brainstormed to
outline strategies to address chronic homelessness. Each group focused
on a single area, including:
i) Emergency Prevention,
ii) Systems Prevention,
iii) Outreach,
iv) Shorten Homelessness,
v) Rapid Re-Housing,
vi) Services,
vii) Permanent Housing, and
viii) Income.
i) Emergency Prevention
This group suggested that HIP, United Way, and Caller Times should
work on developing a resource list consisting of agencies that assist with
rental, mortgage, and/or utility payments. The list should be made
available to the community by June 2004. A central tracking system
needs to be developed by HIP, the City, and the County, which can track
clients for services, by June 2004.
33
