County in 2001, There were 1,261 confirmed cases of child abuse and <br />neglect, <br />Migration- Corpus Christi is the largest city in Nueces County, <br />containing over 88 percent of the total county population, according to <br />the 2000 Census. The rural areas of the county (outside Corpus Christi) <br />showed a population decline from 1980, indicating migration from the <br />smaller communities into Corpus Christi, This pattern of migration into <br />larger urban areas in search of better employment opportunities and <br />public assistance is typical statewide. In addition to native homeless <br />persons, Corpus Christi witnesses a migration of homeless persons from <br />northern cities during winter months. Southern cities typically experience <br />an increase in demand at homeless facilities during the winter as <br />individuals and families escape the rigors of northern winters.. This <br />increase adds to the local burden of addressing chronic homelessness <br />as the responsibility shifts south, <br />1.6.
