^ Nearly 80 percent of the homeless population were unemployed, <br />^ Over seven percent of the homeless were in foster care as a <br />child, <br />^ Nearly 67 percent of the homeless had less than a high school <br />education, <br />^ Nearly 13 percent of the homeless had at least four episodes of <br />homelessness, <br />^ Nearly 23 percent of the homeless in the survey reported having <br />a physical disability, over 22 percent had a mental disability, <br />nearly 25 percent were alcohol abusers, over 17 percent were <br />drug abusers, and NIV and domestic violence cases accounted <br />for three percent each, and <br />^ Over 55 percent of the homeless in the survey reported the need <br />for housing assistance, nearly .50 percent reported the need for <br />employment, over 47 percent reported the need for <br />transportation, nearly 38 percent reported the need for <br />healthcare, nearly 25 percent reported the need for shelter, over <br />18 percent needed assistance with legal services, nearly 18 <br />percent reported the need for mental health services, nearly 12 <br />percent needed case management, over five percent needed <br />childcare services, and nearly five percent needed other <br />services. <br />Charts 1 through 7, on the following pages, provide the facts and <br />figures of the survey. <br />6 <br />
