housing in Corpus Christi. In the group earning $10,000 to $19,999 <br />per year, more than 72 percent were in 30 percent cost burden. Of <br />those earning from $20,000 to $34,999 per year, over 31 percent of <br />households paid a high percentage of their income for housing <br />expenses. <br />Insufficient Income- According to 2000 Census, over 12 percent of <br />the households in Corpus Christi reported an income less than <br />$10,000, nearly 15 percent reported an income from $15,000 to <br />$25,000, and over 13 percent reported an income between $25,000 <br />and $3.5,000. As reported by 2000 Census, the unemployment rate <br />in Corpus Christi was 7.19 percent. <br />Inadequate Services- According to 2000 Census, there were nearly <br />97,100 (35%) disabled people in Corpus Christi. Of them, over <br />23,560 persons had physical disability and nearly 14,160 had mental <br />disability. The 2000 Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy <br />(CHAS) data reported that there were nearly 2,740 very low-income <br />elderly renters and 3,760 elderly owners in Corpus Christi.
