15 <br />State of North Carolina <br />Division of Social Services <br />Contract Application <br />Page 7 of 7 <br />III Service Program Description <br />Purpose: <br />To coordinate resources and services with the faith community in Orange County in <br />cooperation with DSS and to assist Work First clients in becoming self-sufficient. As a result <br />of welfare reform families are moving off the welfare rolls. It is imperative that our <br />community rise to the challenge of assisting families as they lose benefits. <br />Objectives: <br />Winnie Morgan will coordinate faith community involvement with I)SS. Coordinating the <br />faith community and building collaboration with DSS is a major job, which takes dedicated <br />staff. <br />• Compile a comprehensive list of churches in Orange County <br />• Establish a faith based advisory group <br />• Develop a quarterly newsletter <br />• Supervise and coordinate the development of faith based activities in collaboration with <br />staff <br />• Create a resource packet for faith community <br />• Provide training for faith based teams <br />• Create opportunities for teams to share experiences <br />Performance Measures: <br />• Develop a Faith Partnership with 10 churches <br />• Match 10 Work First families with the faith community in as Adopt-A-Family Model <br />• Conduct quarterly training sessions for faith based teams <br />• Work with teams around problem solving and appropriate intervention strategies <br />
