ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: October 3, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 5-~ <br />SUBJECT: Jail Inspection Report <br />DEPARTMENT: Sheriff <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />September 1, 2005 Letter from .)ohn <br />Harkins <br />Jail Inspection Report <br />Sheriffs Letter to Gina Wooten <br />Sheriffs Letter to Mike Tapp <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Lindy Pendergrass - 245-2900 <br />PURPOSE: To receive the jail inspection report for July 20, 2005 from the North Carolina <br />Department of Health and Human Services. <br />BACKGROUND: The General Statutes require the Board of County Commissioners to <br />receive and take necessary corrective action to the semi-annual jail inspection reports <br />submitted by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The statute <br />further states that the governing body shall promptly initiate any action necessary to bring jail <br />facilities into conformity to standards. The report far July 20, 2005 is enclosed for review and <br />indicates Orange County's compliance with standards. <br />The attached letter details the Sheriffs response to the findings of the report. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: While there is no financial impact with accepting the attached Jail <br />Inspection Report, the report does identify some areas that require attention by staff. The <br />maintenance and repair corrections will be performed by the County's Public Works staff, and <br />the cast of these items will be covered in the current year budget far Public Works. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of Commissioners <br />receive the report. Corrective action is being taken as required. <br />
