5 <br /> 1 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 2 PROCLAMATION HONORING JASON JOHNSON <br /> 3 AS THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS(NASSP) 2026 NATIONAL HIGH <br /> 4 SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR <br /> 5 <br /> 6 WHEREAS, Orange High School Principal Jason Johnson has generously contributed and worked tirelessly <br /> 7 in public education for 28 years; and <br /> 8 <br /> 9 WHEREAS, Principal Johnson served as a teacher, school transformation coach, assistant principal, and <br /> 10 executive director of Orange County Schools before returning to his calling as a principal; and <br /> 11 <br /> 12 WHEREAS, working with students, teachers, and families is at the heart of who Principal Johnson is as an <br /> 13 educational leader; and <br /> 14 <br /> 15 WHEREAS,as principal,Jason Johnson is an advocate for equity in schools and ensuring that student voices <br /> 16 are heard; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, Principal Johnson was recognized in 2025 as the Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the <br /> 19 Year, and was previously the 2010 and 2024 Orange County Schools Principal of the Year; and <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson has also lent his expertise and experience to the Orange County Schools Equity <br /> 22 Task Force, the Orange County Government School Bond Education Committee, the Orange County <br /> 23 Business Advisory Council, and the North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) Advisory <br /> 24 Committee; and <br /> 25 <br /> 26 WHEREAS, Principal Johnson leads by listening to teachers, students, staff members, and members of the <br /> 27 community, and fosters a collaborative culture at Orange High School; <br /> 28 <br /> 29 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby honor Principal Jason <br /> 30 Johnson for his recent recognition as National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) 2026 <br /> 31 National High School Principal of the Year and encourage the residents of Orange County to join with us in <br /> 32 expressing gratitude for his dedicated service to education. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 This the 5th day of May, 2026. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Jean Hamilton, Chair <br /> 38 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 39 <br /> 40 A motion was made by Commissioner Portie-Ascott, seconded by Vice-Chair Fowler, to approve <br /> 41 the proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 44 <br /> 45 PUBLIC COMMENT: <br /> 46 Will Atherton, Chair of the Orange County School Board,thanked the Board of Commissioners for <br /> 47 honoring Jason Johnson. He said that his work resonates nationally and that Orange County Schools is <br /> 48 very proud. <br />
