Orange County Roundtable Discussion <br />"Providing Services to the Latino Population" <br />Preliminary Report (June 2003) <br />^ Piedmont Health Services also has a similar clinic facility in Prospect Hill, NC. <br />XXV. Student Health Action Coalition (SHAG) <br />^ Services are provided at the Carrboro Community Health Center on <br />Wednesday evenings. <br />XXVI. Adolescents in Need <br />^ This pregnancy prevention program operates in northern Orange County and <br />provides case management services to middle school and high school <br />students. Its goal is to keep youth in school. <br />^ Referrals are received from juvenile court, schools, and parents. <br />^ Funding sources include Orange County, UNC and private donations. <br />XXVII. Child Support Enforcement <br />^ This county agency is available to any county resident -individuals do not <br />have to be documented. <br />^ Services include: <br />(a) assistance in locating non-custodial parents <br />(b) establishing child support orders <br />(c) enforcing child support orders <br />^ Translation is a challenge, especially with legal issues. <br />XXVIII.Orange County Housing 8~ Community Development <br />^ This county agency administers the Section 8 Program that provides rental <br />assistance. <br />^ There is currently a waiting list of more than 1000 persons. <br />^ There is a low demand for services from the Latino community. <br />XXIX. Orange County Human Rights 8~ Relations Department <br />^ This county agency is responsible for enforcing the County's Civil Rights <br />Ordinance. <br />^ The department also investigates employment and housing discrimination. <br />NEXT STEPS: <br />1. Compile the information received from today's meeting for distribution to all <br />participants and also share with the Board of County Commissioners. <br />2. The Hispanic Task Force meets each month, usually on Wednesdays, at EI <br />Centro. Interested persons are invited and encouraged to attend. <br />3. Reconvene this group in six months to provide program updates and to discuss <br />relevant issues. <br />
